Powertrain vs. Bumper-to-Bumper Warranties

If you have been shopping for a warranty with a new car, then you should compare dealership warranties. Most dealerships offer two types of warranties including powertrain and bumper-to-bumper. Powertrain coverage means that everything with your drivetrain, transmission, and engine is covered. Powertrain warranties usually last longer than bumper-to-bumper warranties.

Bumper-to-bumper warranties covered everything in the powertrain warranty as well as audio systems, electronics, driveshaft, and air conditioning. Most bumper-to-bumper warranties offer such comprehensive coverage that they do not last as long as other warranties. The only thing not covered by bumper-to-bumper warranties is typically the bumper of the vehicle.

You should read through the warranty provided by the dealership before signing, as some warranties include less or more, depending on the company. You can also talk about the warranty with your sales manager. The service department and customer service managers offer great advice on warranties at Broadway Ford.
